Hi. Lofty here ...
For years, I was a successful property developer in a small town far from here. But then the local economy took a knock, and everything changed.
We moved to Knysna after the fires in 2017. There was plenty of work rebuilding homes. But I felt like I was building other people’s dreams, not my own. I needed something I could take ownership of.
In the beginning, we didn’t make a cent. We worked long hours and fixed every single callback ourselves. No shortcuts. No excuses. After about two years, I had a straight talk with Renier, my right-hand man. We realised we were reacting, not leading. We had to change.
We introduced something I knew well from my days on building sites: proper fault finding. We stopped guessing and started getting to the bottom of problems. That made all the difference. It’s still what makes our work stand out today.
Now, people call us when others can’t find the source of a leak. We've cracked cases others couldn't for years.
One job took months to figure out. Turns out the water was running through an electrical conduit. But we stuck with it and solved it. That’s what we do. We stay with the problem until it’s fixed.
Today, we’re growing. We’ve opened a licensed branch in Gqeberha and plan to open more. But we’re still hands-on. Every callback gets logged and discussed. We hold monthly team leader meetings to talk about what went wrong, what worked, and how to improve. We don’t make changes to save time. We make changes to serve our clients better.
I take full responsibility for the work we do. And when I’m not on site or planning our next step, I’m probably on the squash court or launching my ski-boat if the sea’s looking good. That’s my way of resetting.
This business helped me rebuild my life. I’m proud of the work we do — not because it’s fancy, but because it’s real. And because we never give up.
